Widget

Widgets are blocks of content that can be added to sidebars, footers, and other areas of a website.

Very useful to facilitate navigation on a website, widgets are also used to get a visitor to take action, such as subscribing to a newsletter or following your company on social networks.

A widget is used to add functionality without having to write code. The most common widgets are used to add:

  • Menus
  • Lists of publications
  • Categories
  • Calendars
  • Banner ads
  • Sharing icons for social networks
  • Newsletter subscription options
  • Testimonials
  • Etc.

The widgets are visible in different areas of the website, depending on the theme. These can be found in the header, footer, sidebar of the website, or any other place allowed by the theme.

Used to support WordPress users, widgets are a simple way to contribute to the design of a website and its content without needing to know how to code.

Note: It is not uncommon to see users confuse the widget and the plugin. These are two completely different concepts.
